SUMMARY:


Merit Services is seeking a skilled Marine Biologist to join our client’s dynamic team in Saskatchewan. As a professional in the field of Marine Biology, your primary responsibilities will involve conducting investigations, analyzing marine ecosystems, and actively participating in efforts to ensure the responsible utilization of our oceans and their resources. RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Gather information about marine species, habitats, and ecosystems through diverse research methods and equipment during fieldwork.
  • Examine the gathered data and actively contribute to the creation of scientific reports, publications, and presentations.
  • Examine the effects of human actions on marine ecosystems, encompassing issues such as pollution, climate change, and the destruction of habitats.
  • Perform evaluations of biodiversity and oversee the well-being and populations of oceanic organisms.
  • Help with the creation and execution of strategies for the protection and sustainable management of marine ecosystems.
  • Engage in collaboration with fellow scientists, researchers, and stakeholders to share information and enhance initiatives aimed at preserving biodiversity.
  • Engage in educational outreach initiatives, promoting marine conservation awareness and nurturing a sense of responsibility towards the environment.
  • Keep yourself informed about the most recent progress and discoveries in marine biology by staying updated.
  • Ensure precise documentation of research endeavors, data, and observations.
  • Adhere strictly to applicable safety regulations and ethical principles.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree or Doctorate degree. Obtain a bachelor’s degree in Marine Biology, Oceanography, or a related area of study.
  • Demonstrated expertise in performing marine research, ideally within a professional or educational environment.
  • Extensive understanding of marine ecosystems, ability to identify various species, and familiarity with research techniques in this field.
  • Expertise in software for data analysis and proficiency in statistical methodologies.
  • The individual possesses outstanding proficiency in written and oral communication, capable of effectively conveying scientific discoveries to both technical and non-technical listeners.
  • The individual possesses excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities, along with a keen focus on details.
  • Capability to function autonomously or collectively as a member of a research group.
  • Effective organizational and time management abilities necessary to successfully meet project deadlines.
  • Having practical fieldwork experience and a scuba diving certification is desired.
