RESPONSIBILITIES:

  •  Handle line to moor vessel to shore;
  •  Sweep and wash deck, using broom, brushes, mops, and fire hose;
  •  Lower and operate lifeboat in case of emergencies;
  •  Lift and lower hydraulic apron at landings for loading and unloading barge;
  •  Log all traffic crossing and enter information in computer;
  •  Log daily fuel consumption for tug;
  •  Direct traffic to proper position on the barge and secures vehicles for transportation;
  •  Informs passengers of barge procedures and protocol;
  •  Ensure passenger safety at all times and monitor vehicle loading/unloading to prevent spills and safety incidents;
  •  Load or unload material from barges;
  •  Daily maintenance of machinery and equipment;
  •  Responsible for cleanliness and upkeep of engine room and all other compartments;
  •  Assist with minor repairs and painting onboard barge;
  •  Assist with minor repairs and barge preparations prior to deployment;
  •  Maintain a high standard of performance in your duties;
  •  Be an effective communicator in English (verbal and written) at all levels, including keeping your cross-shift and other team members fully informed at all times
  •  Participate in site specific training;
  •  Comply with company standards, as well as Yukon Territory and Canadian federal standards;
  •  Other duties may be assigned from time to time as required by the Company.

REQUIRED:

  •  3 years experience as an Operator or Labourer;
  •  Previous Deckhand experience;
  •  Marine Emergency Duties A3 Certificate;
  •  Valid first aid certificate with CPR;
  •  Experience working in a remote mining or industrial environment;
  •  Must be eligible to work in Canada;
  •  Ability to develop and foster strong working relationships;
  •  Ability to work with a diverse cross-cultural workforce;
  •  Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities;
  •  Valid driver’s license;
  •  Physically fit to perform the duties of the position.
