Job Description


Merit Services is actively recruiting a highly skilled Senior Accountant to join our esteemed client in Toronto. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing financial reporting and analysis for our client based in Vaughan. The ideal Senior Accountant will possess a deep knowledge of accounting principles, coupled with exceptional analytical and communication skills.


  • Provide effective oversight of the month-end and year-end closing process, ensuring accurate reconciliation and journal entry management.
  • Skillfully prepare comprehensive financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
  • Conduct thorough financial analysis to identify trends and opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Develop and maintain robust accounting policies and strategies to ensure consistency and adherence to best practices.
  • Ensure strict compliance with all relevant financial regulations and standards.
  • Foster collaborative partnerships with cross-functional teams to establish and maintain budgets and forecasts.
  • Efficiently manage and supervise the accounting team, overseeing day-to-day operations with precision.
  • Skillfully prepare and file tax returns and other government filings in a timely and accurate manner.


  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field, demonstrating a strong educational foundation.
  • Hold a CPA or CA certification, showcasing a high level of professional competence and expertise.  Bring in-depth experience of 5+ years in accounting, ideally in a senior or supervisory capacity, indicating a proven track record of success and leadership.
  • Exhibit a comprehensive understanding of accounting principles and financial controls, ensuring accuracy and adherence to regulations.
  • Showcase exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, adept at resolving complex accounting issues and providing insightful solutions.
  • Demonstrate outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, fostering effective collaboration and relationship-building with diverse stakeholders.
  • Possess the ability to work independently and as part of a team, displaying adaptability and a strong work ethic to achieve common goals.
