SUMMARY:
Merit Services is seeking IT Security Specialist to join our client’s dynamic team in Kelowna. As an IT Security Specialist, your responsibility will involve putting in place security protocols, detecting and addressing any potential weaknesses, and promptly managing any security issues that may arise, all aimed at safeguarding the confidentiality, integrity, and accessibility of our IT resources. This presents a thrilling chance to employ your specialized knowledge in cybersecurity, risk management, and compliance to protect our organization’s digital resources.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and uphold IT security measures to protect against unauthorized entry, data breaches, and cyber risks.
- Keep a close watch on systems and networks to detect any security incidents, thoroughly investigate and address any vulnerabilities or breaches found.
- Perform vulnerability assessments and penetration testing with the purpose of detecting and resolving any possible security threats.
- Work together with teams from various departments to create and implement IT security policies, standards, and procedures.
- Stay informed about evolving security risks, current trends in the industry, and recommended approaches for ongoing enhancement.
- Help with creating and implementing IT security training and awareness initiatives for staff members.
- Monitor and analyze security logs and reports in order to detect potential security incidents or trends.
- Engage in the incident response procedure, which involves examining the incident, confining it, eliminating it, and restoring normalcy.
- Help in performing IT security audits and risk evaluations to guarantee adherence to regulatory demands and industry guidelines.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A degree in Information Security, Computer Science, or a similar area of study at the Bachelor’s level is required.
- Demonstrated expertise in the role of an IT Security Specialist or a comparable position, successfully executing and upholding security measures.
- Having a deep understanding of cybersecurity principles, exemplary methods, and accepted norms within the industry (such as ISO 27001 and NIST Cybersecurity Framework).
- Knowledge of security technologies, such as firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, antivirus software, and encryption methods, is essential.
- Expertise in utilizing tools for vulnerability assessment and conducting penetration tests.
- Knowledge regarding network protocols, operating systems, and cloud platforms is essential.
- A deep comprehension regarding regulatory standards like GDPR, PIPEDA, or HIPAA is essential.
- Preferred certifications include CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional) or CISM (Certified Information Security Manager).
- Having excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, along with the capacity to think critically and handle security incidents efficiently.
- Exceptional communication and partnership abilities, including the proficiency to express intricate security ideas to individuals who may not have a technical background.
